The 53rd Annual Meat Animal Sale at the 2024 Dane County Fair grossed $246,373.05, according to Dane County Meat Animal Sale Officials.
The sale attracted wide community support with a total of 100 animals sold in the sale: 27 sheep, 37 hogs, and 36 steers. Sheep averaged $12.46 per pound, hogs averaged $8.12 per pound, and steers averaged $2.56 per pound.
The Grand Champion Market Barrow was shown by Brayden Breunig of Sauk City and was sold to Kayer Ford Lincoln for a price of $12.50 per pound. Conant Automotive purchased the Reserve Grand Champion Market Barrow, shown by Brigid Howard of Brooklyn, for $15.00 per pound.
The Grand Champion Market Lamb, shown by Justin Pauli of Belleville, was sold to Woodman’s for $12.00 per pound. The Reserve Champion Market Lamb, shown by Emma Haag of Oregon, was purchased by Payne & Dolan Inc for $24.00 per pound.
The Grand Champion Steer, shown by Leonardo Beere of Verona, was purchased by Renk Seed for $6.25 per pound. The Reserve Grand Champion Steer exhibited by Cannon Suddeth of Stoughton was purchased by Woodman’s for $5.00 per pound.
