Education Card & Submitting Education Requirements Information

After attending an education meeting, youth should complete the following education card - CLICK HERE.

The completed card will need to be uploaded to the online portal - CLICK HERE. Education requirements must be met by June 15, 2021 to show at the Dane County Fair.


Dog Project Education Offerings


Information will be posted as it is announced.

Youth can officially register for the dog project anytime. If a youth is interested in showing in the Dog, Dog Obedience (includes Agility) at the Dane County Fair, the project areas must be added to their profile by March 1st each year. Contact 4Hinfo@countyofdane.com  with the member name and project areas that you would like added.


Livestock Education Offerings

The 4-H Livestock Education Committee has confirmed that the education programs below offered by the Wisconsin Youth Livestock Program (WYLP), in connection with the University of Wisconsin Madison Animal & Dairy Sciences Department, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and Division of Extension, can be used to meet your Livestock education requirement for beef, sheep and swine. These are LIVE Virtual Zoom educational programs.


To receive credit, youth must attend the webinar and complete the two forms below and upload them to the online portal that will open in February (more information on this soon):

These current topics are for youth and adults alike and occur on the 2nd Thursday of the month from January through May.  Each session begins at 7 p.m. CST with a presentation followed by Q&A.  You must register in order to receive the connecting information through email.

Dairy Education Offerings

4-H Dairy Education Meeting – Dairy Judging & Dairy Bowl

What do you call a cow in an earthquake? A Milkshake! OK…this is not a question you will have to answer at the Dairy Bowl or during Dairy Judging, but our awesome 4-H Dairy Youth Leaders will share more about the fun you will have at these events and what’s involved in an interactive presentation. Geared toward youth in grades 6-13.

Sheep Education Offerings


An in-person sheep showmanship class with a shearing demonstration for youth enrolled in the Sheep Project and other interested youth is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 6:30pm. This class will meet the Sheep education requirement for 2020-2021.

Youth will be outside and socially distanced when attending the class.

Participants should stay home if they are experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19 or have had known contact with anyone with COVID-19 14 days before the Sheep education class. UW-Madison Division of Extension faculty, staff and volunteers may require that program participants leave a program, based on health concerns associated with COVID-19.

Bring a copy of your Education Requirement Card to the event so you can get the presenter’s signature.

Poultry Education Offerings

The Dane County Small Animal Committee are hosting 2 Pullorum Testing locations this year.  Exhibitors need to bring their birds that need to be tested, their premise ID to the testing center and be prepared to complete the testing paperwork.  Also, bring the appropriate size leg bands with you.  Please be prepared to handle your own birds and hold the birds for the tester.


There will be no cost for the testing.  The testers are volunteering their time and the cost of the antigen was donated by a poultry leader.

Small Animal Education Offerings

The Dane County 4-H Small Animal Committee and youth leaders have organized online Zoom education meetings on Saturday, April 10, 2021 for those youth interested in Poultry, Rabbits and Cavies (Guinea Pigs). These educational events are open to all youth and are free. The presentations will be different than those offered in January. Youth who are interested in showing poultry, rabbits and cavies at the Dane County Fair are required to attend an education event related to the animal species they will show.

YQCA - Youth for the Quality Care of Animals

is required for youth who will show animals at the Dane County Fair. Youth can complete this certification online anytime. There is a $12 fee for the online training. Currently, there are no in-person meetings scheduled due to COVID-19.

YQCA is designed as an annual education and certification program focused on food safety, animal well-being and character awareness for youth ages 8 to 21. The program has been designed by extension specialists and national livestock program managers to ensure it is accurate, current and relevant to the needs of the animal industry and shows and is appropriate for youth.
